Tasmanian Field Day 9 Aug 2015

The HGA invites you to a Hazelnut Field Day at Glengarry (near Exeter)
WHEN: Sunday 9th August 2pm – 4pm
WHERE: At Tamar Valley Hazelnuts, 43 Turkey Farm Road Glengarry 7275.

To get there … From Launceston, turn onto the Frankford Highway at Exeter and continue until you reach the Glengarry shop just past Glengarry Rd (approx 7 mins drive from Exeter). Turkey Farm Rd is the first left past the shop and Tamary Valley Hazelnuts is the first driveway on the left. Owned and operated by Nathan and Carol Bracken, Tamar Valley Hazelnuts is one of Tasmania’s largest hazelnut orchards, with currently around 4,500 trees planted, and plans for many more. The first part of their orchard – approx 1600 trees – was planted in 2010. Nathan and Carol also operate a hazelnut nursery.

Meet with other hazelnut growers to discuss issues related to the growing of hazelnuts, including:
– Disease awareness and management, including Big Bud Mite and Bacterial Blight
– Hazelnut Biosecurity
– Hazelnut pruning – a chance to share thoughts and methods
Also time to inspect the orchard, and its equipment, including a new nut harvester. And plenty of time for informal discussion with new or potential growers.

Afternoon tea will be provided. HGA Handbook available for purchase.
Cost: HGA members $5 Non-HGA members $25
